Ndera Neuropsychiatric Teaching Hospital, HIV and Mental Health Service provides integrated care of HIV/Mental health. It refers to the ways of managing the patients with comorbidities, HIV/AIDs and mental health through interdisciplinary health care as part of HIV prevention, diagnosis and management.  It has 7 staff members, namely, a Medical Doctor, two Mental Health Nurses, Clinical Psychologist, Lab technician, Data Danager and Social Worker. 

The following are the cores services of the HIV/mental health Integration service:

  • PIT (Provider Initiative Test)
  • HIV testing and counseling
  • HIV prevention, PEP and PREP to patient with mental Illness
  • Linkage patient to care and treatment (ARVs)
  • Sensitization and psycho education on HIV/AIDs to patient with mental problems
  • Psychiatric and Medical consultation to patient with co morbidities (HIV/AIDS and mental illness
  • Home visit and follow up   to patient for promoting adherence
  • Support group for patient with these co morbidities
  • Psychosocial assessment and support for patient with co morbidities 
  • Psychological support
  • ARVs and Neuroleptic drug monitoring

Additional scopes services of HIV/MH integration service

  • Mentorships on HIV/MH integration program to 30 District hospitals
  • Strengthen knowledge on HIV mental health integrated care to health care providers from DHs and Health centers through training and case sharing strategies.
  • Mental ill patient association visit through HIV/Mental health integration program across the country.
