The Hospital provides one-day training to journalists on mental health
As part of this year’s mental health awareness campaign, on Thursday, October 06, 2022, Ndera Neuro-Psychiatric Teaching Hospital provided one-day training to journalists to improve their knowledge on mental health and increase quality and quantity of reports on mental health topic. This training is expected to result in a more informed and a healthier society, and to destigmatize mental health services in Rwanda.
The day mainly focused on the overview of the Hospital, introduction to common mental disorders and their management, pedopsychiatry (children and adolescents), epilepsy, discussions on the role of the community in addressing social cases and stigma, as well as the tour of some of the Hospital services.
Led by Dr Bizoza Rutakayile, the Head of Psychiatry department, the training was provided by various specialists in psychiatry and neurology, general practitioners as well as social workers at the Hospital, among others, with bid to equip the media practitioners with basic skills on mental health.
The journalists appreciated the opportunity they were given and committed to improve their reporting and contribute to the fight against stigma around mental health.
